Start Training a Lab While They Are Still Puppies

training a labYou can make this task of training your pet much more simple if you start it while they are still a puppy. This is due to the fact that Labradors (same with most breeds of dogs) when they are still young follow commands and develop good habits easily. In case you are not yet aware, Labrador retrievers  are big and hyper dogs so it will be such a hassle to train them once they become an adult already. So I highly recommend that you start your Lab dog training as early as possible. I learned everything about training a lab from this guide.

Tips on Training a Labrador Retriever Effectively

The following tips will help you on training a lab dog that is gentle, obedient and a loving pet.

  • Show Him Patience, Kindness and Love

Just like a baby, your lab puppy is innocent and doesn’t know how to distinguish if something is right or wrong. You must be the one to guide your Labrador on how to act properly. Avoid hitting your puppy for it will cause emotional trauma and rebellion from your pet. Instead, show them appreciation and love so they will realize that being good will give them positive response. This is one recommended method of training a Labrador puppy of almost all dog trainers.

  • Offer Them Rewards or Treats

Show them your appreciation by giving your lab puppy rewards or treats if he does something good. It will be a motivation thing for him during his entire training. For example if you are training a lab puppy not to bite and he followed you diligently, give him some good treats for it. Don’t spoil them though. Just give them the treats or rewards if they did really something good; that way they will know that they can only get those goodies if they are being obedient on their house training and when they are accomplishing desirable deeds.

  • Don’t Bore Them with Lengthy Trainings

Any Labrador puppy will have a short span of attention during their early stages of training so expect them to get tired easily when you teach them something new. The best way of training a Labrador retriever puppy is to give him a 3 minute lessons for about 3-4 times everyday. This will allow your puppy to really keep in mind what you are teaching him and will make him feel great about not being forced to learn instantly. Remember, you pet is still a baby so always be gentle on him

  • Spend Extra Time with Your Lab Pet

Labradors are known to be ideal family pets since they are pack animals wanting to belong in a group. In short, lab puppies must not be left alone most of the time or else they will feel depressed and start behaving badly. Try to play with your puppy often or do some walk with him daily even if it’s just in your backyard. This will make him feel loved and protected. In return, you’ll get his loyalty and adoration.

Show Your Labradors Puppy Attention and Care

Treat your Labrador pet with kindness and love if you want him to be loyal to you. Although training a Labrador puppy calls for dedication, patience and much understanding, it’s all worth it once you see your Labrador retriever grows up to be the obedient and loving pet you wish him to be. You will never regret training a lab dog well because they can be your trusted friend for life.

Training A Labrador
house training a labrador?

we have had our chocolate lab for 2 yrs and house training her is just so hard she wees and poos everywhere all the time she has constant access to the garden but its like she cant be bothered. we feel really embrassed when we have people over does n e one have n e ideas on what i can do. i also have a 15 wk old sharpei who is 100% house trained
iv tried treats with her iv even tried putting her in a crate but she aint interested she will still do her business
just to let u no i dont need the rude comments i came on for advise the my house does not smell and is very clean actually i dont have a playstation i have a xbox a my sharpei is totally house trained sort ur life out u fucking nob

Start over.

Confine her to a small space (kitchen/ crate) when you can’t watch her. Correct her when you see her go. If she goes in the space where you confine her- make it progressively smaller. Clean everything- 50% white vinigar/ 50% seltzer water. She probably smells herself all over the house- and can’t figure out why you guys have a problem with it…

Take her outside after she eats, sleeps, and plays. Labs love praise- praise her like crazy when she goes outside- food if you have to. Some dogs get embarassed by making a fuss- but labs seem to soak it all up.

Good Luck!!!!

Training A Lab
Any brilliant tips for me and my new 8 week old lab?

An 8 week old female black lab. Training tips would be fabulous! Thanks a bunches!

Labs need a lot of exercise, please remember to walk her daily, play a good running game with her like fetch or chase daily and stimulate her mind with training.

Labs are brilliant dogs and the more you work with them and do things with them, the more you will fall in love with the breed.

Get into obedience classes as soon as her shots are done so she can also get great socialization.
